What emerged as a normal occurrence quickly escalated into a living terror, forcing me to confront my deepest fears. Every step I took, each decision I made, only dragged me further into the abyss.

Every epoch features/contains/boasts its share/a multitude/countless of decisions that, in hindsight, seem utterly/completely/wildly foolish/stupid/inane. From/During/Throughout history, we've witnessed choices/actions/decisions that have led to/resulted in/caused unimaginable suffering/pain/destruction.
